Drink Pink at Flemings

DRINK PINK AT FLEMINGS!

10.06.11

By Sheryll Alexander

October’s Breast Cancer Awareness Month is here and Fleming’s Prime Steakhouse & Wine Bar is once again helping to raise funds with a 99-calorie cocktail, The Stiletto (recipe below), for just $6 with all proceeds benefiting The Avon Breast Cancer Crusade.

As part of this month’s signature cocktail during the daily 5 for $6 til 7 (with five appetizers, five cocktails and five wines for $6 until 7 PM), the rose-hued Stiletto highlights how Fleming’s and its guests can easily and deliciously support The Avon Breast Cancer Crusade.

Fleming’s has also added Cline Cashmere, a Napa Valley Rhône-style red, to the “5 for $6 ‘til 7” bar menu. Cashmere is a flavorful, smooth blend with big cherry, raspberry and chocolate notes, and hints of cracked black pepper and plum. The winery behind this generous red is the equally generous Cline Cellars. Each year, they donate $25,000 to Living Beyond Breast Cancer.

Wear to Where: Ask a Stylist

Wear to Where: Ask A Stylist!

Question:  I'm iffy on the ”bootie" look;  I want them so bad, but I'm short and I feel they'll only make me look shorter.  What's your advice on incorporating this trend into my wardrobe?

Answer:  One of the most popular and easy-to-wear women's boots is the ankle boot, which hits right at the ankle and can be worn with many different outfits. If you make smart wardrobe decisions, ankle boots can visually lengthen your legs and add a chic edge to an otherwise ordinary outfit. Pay attention to the silhouette when you wear these boots though and thoughtfully select slimming pieces to create a streamlined outfit.

Q:  How can I use accessories to help my body look thinner? Or is that even possible?

A:  It sounds too good to be true I know, but proportion can play tricks on the eye. An oversized handbag can help you look slimmer. Choose a shape that flatters (square shapes complement a rounder figure) and a strap length that does not land in a problem area (don’t let the bottom of the purse rest on full hips)

Q:  Since the weather is finally getting cooler I want to invest in a coat that will be light enough for the Southern Californian winter weather but also keep me warm. Any suggestions?

A:  On a drab Socal day I always grab a trench and took fab!  Practical and ever-so fashionable, the trench coat is a sleek outerwear staple that comes out to play season after season. Mostly seen in neutral tones, you can’t help but feel sophisticated in an “I just threw this on” sort of way.

Q: HELP, I'm stuck in a style rut and I don't have a lot of money to get out of it.

A: Sticking with classics has been conventional style wisdom for ages and for women with full lives and limited resources this is still a sure way to investment dressing. The problem is that as we grow older, we sometimes become a little too comfortable wearing our old standbys (or just doing "replenishment" shopping each season). Sometimes all it takes is tweaking the basics that you already own to look fabulous.
